With a view of facilitating matters they instructed Colonel Boyle and our Mr Dickinson to call upon Mr
H Grewing, Director of the China & Japan Telephone Co. This they aid on the 27th ulto and fully discussed the matter. The result was that a letter as per enclosed copy was sent to Mr Grewing.
From this you will see that our clients have done all they
can to meet the views of the Colonial Secretary.
Immediately we receive an acceptance we will communicate with you again.
In view of the construction of further tramways in the
Colonies, we are desirous of expressing the hope that your
Department will not make this instance an established precedent,as
if the lines had been constructed in this country the Tramway Company
would not have been called upon to make any payment to the
Telephone Company.
